Handgun Safety/Personal Protection Course
(Meets requirements for State of Maine Concealed Firearms Permit)
This course is a combination of the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) Basic Pistol and NRA Personal Protection in the Home programs. It will cover handgun types and function, selection and operation, along with discussions of the responsibilities and legal requirements for handgun ownership. The course will include significant range time, with multiple shooting sessions. Students with physical challenges that might make it difficult for them to participate should contact the instructors prior to registration. Course fee $100. Please make checks payable to Monmouth Fish & Game Association. Student will also need to provide 120 rounds of factory-loaded centerfire handgun ammunition for the range sessions. NO AMMUNITION in the classroom! If you have a preferred handgun, you may use it in the course, subject to inspection and approval of the instructors. Loaner pistols in 9mm and .45ACP, and loaner revolvers in .38 Special, will be available for students that don’t have a handgun (part of the first session will be devoted to the merits of different types of handguns and cartridges).
